Here are some quotes on the beauty of simplicity. If you happen to know some more quotes on this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Let us start with Albert Einstein‘s immortal quote:

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Simplifying… what is it? German-born modernist painter Hans Hofmann has the answer:

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unecessary so that the necessary may speak.

According to John Maeda, a professor in MIT’s Media Lab, simplicity is all about the “conflict” between what is obvious and what is meaningful:

Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.

Japanese artist, designer and architect, Dr. Koichi Kawana, has similar views on what simplifying means:

Simplicity means the achievement of maximum effect with minimum means.

To reach the essence of things, all non-essential elements must be eliminated.

If this topic interests you, you might wanna take a look at John Maeda’s blog: The Laws of Simplicity.

“entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem”
    William of Ockham.

  2. Whiz Says:

Here are some more for you:

A man must be able to cut a knot, for everything cannot be untied; he must know how to disengage what is essential from the detail in which it is enwrapped, for everything cannot be equally considered; in a word, he must be able to simplify his duties, his business and his life.
    – Henri Frederic Amiel

Simplicity is natures first step, and the last of art.

To simplify complications is the first essential of success.

    Enjoy

An alternative statement to Occams Razor.
“Plurality should not be posited without necessity”
i find this one terse..though all the statements are equivalent ;)

I could add something about simplicity John von Neumann has said (although it’s not about what IS simplicity..):
