Transistor – 60th anniversary

On 16 December 1947, William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain succeeded in building the first practical point-contact transistor at Bell Labs. This invention started the solid-state electronics revolution, and the world would never be the same again. Few inventions had such a profound impact on society.

    Yes, I know that today is December 17th, meaning that the transistor’s 60th b-day was yesterday. In any case, that’s kind of irrelevant, right?
